Top secret files declassified Monday state that in 1957 two U.S. fighter planes were scrambled and ordered to shoot down an Unidentified Flying Object over the English countryside. The object gave a radar reading like a flying aircraft carrier, and reached estimated speeds of 7,600 mph. A UFO expert theorizes that the image may have been the result of a U.S. project to create false aircraft images on Soviet radar screens. But that's the thing about UFOs: They're unidentified, by definition.
